Be an Artist in the Tualatin Valley
Travel inspires us all, stirring the artist within. Even if you don’t consider yourself artsy, per se, we invite you to indulge in art—as well as a little wine as liquid courage—during a weekend art getaway to the Tualatin Valley.
Start the day with a workshop at Live Laugh Love Art. The state-of-the-art glass-blowing studio coaches total beginners on how to make their own one-of-a-kind pieces of art in the studio’s “hot shop.” This is a great way to really heat things up right off the bat!
Being an artist can sure make you hungry! Satiate your food and art ambitions at the Oregon College of Art and Craft. The college’s café, eight|three|one, has delicious food and great eavesdropping as you listen in on the latest artistic pursuits of those sitting near you. After lunch, peruse the Hoffman Gallery, Centrum Gallery and the retail Craft Gallery for fabulous art in every medium and every price range.
If you’d like to stay in a hotel with some artsy flair, then consider the McMenamins Grand Lodge. The lodge is chock-full of whimsical art, ranging from bright murals to stained glass to quirky historical photographs.
On your second day of art-filled antics, take a decidedly more laid-back approach. First, catch a matinee from one of the Tualatin Valley’s standout production companies, such as Bag&Baggage or the Broadway Rose Theatre Company.
Ready to get those creative juices flowing again? Make yet another masterpiece at Vine Gogh Artist Bar & Studio. In addition to paintbrushes and an apron, make sure to get yourself some vino from the bar before settling into your step-by-step painting class.
The best kinds of souvenirs are the ones you make yourself!
