Rural Beauty Farm Tour
Sometimes we all need to reconnect with nature and the simpler joys of life. Next time you find yourself in the hustle and bustle of Portland, be sure to extend your stay so that you can experience farm life in the Tualatin Valley. Just a few minutes’ drive from Portland, you can discover an inviting farm country that is rich is history, food and amazing beauty. From alpacas to bison, and a few surprises in between, take a few hours break from the ordinary and explore several area farms.
After a hearty breakfast at the South Store Café, visit Heart 2 Heart Farms, a family-run, community supported agriculture (CSA) and livestock farm dedicated to growing and cultivating fresh, pesticide and hormone-free food products.
The next attraction to explore is L-Bar-T Bison Ranch, a working bison ranch established in 1991. Check out the bison jerky and other food and gift items in the gift shop.
In the quaint downtown of Forest Grove, enjoy a homemade lunch at Maggie’s Buns. This eclectic eatery specializes in fresh pastries, sandwiches and comfort-food lunch entrees. As the restaurant’s name suggests, do not miss the cinnamon bun! At the very least, order one for everyone at the table to share.
With a belly full of cinnamon bun goodness, come say hello to the furry friends at Alpacas of Oregon. The farm raises alpacas that roam the grounds, welcoming visitors. Be sure to check out the ban store, which is chock-full of luxurious alpaca yarn products.
