With the countdown to Thanksgiving upon us, are you salivating for turkey, cranberry and pumpkin pie yet? For some, the mention of all these delicious foods instantly conjures up thoughts of the perfect wine pairings. After Black Friday, Comes Pinot Saturday and Sunday in the Northern Willamette Valley with the Thanksgiving Wine Weekend. For low-key family bonding, hit the wine trail and you’ll find even more views, tastes and experiences to be thankful for in this season of gratitude.
For over 30 years of joyous Thanksgiving weekends, local wineries have opened their doors for special holiday weekend wine tastings—often debuting new releases or breaking out some special vintages.
This November 25-27, the majority of local wineries will be open Friday-Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
We could, quite legitimately, give you endless options for how to spend your weekend of gallivanting through Oregon’s wine country. To start, here are a few highlights to work into your wine tasting plan:
A Blooming Hill Vineyard & Winery (Tasting fee: $10): Taste all estate wines while perusing the local holiday gifts for sale.
Alloro Vineyard (Tasting fee: $15): Current release wine tasting, charcuterie ($15 per person); pre-release reserve 2014 Pinot tasting ($25 per person).
Apolloni Vineyards (Tasting fee: $10-15): Barrel taste Estate Pinot, Italian-style stainless whites, warm reds and bubbles in the wine cave while shopping the holiday marketplace, showcasing local artisans.
Cooper Mountain Vineyards (Tasting fee: $15; includes logo glass) Taste new releases of organic and biodynamic wines, including the inaugural Gamay Noir.
