Visitors to Tualatin Valley wine country now have TWO options to fly home with a case of wine at no extra cost for checked baggage!

Wine Travels Free with Avelo Airlines
Beginning September 16, 2024, Avelo Airlines, a Houston-based low-cost carrier, passengers can check a case of wine for free. As part of their checked baggage allowance, all customers who are 21 years of age or older can transport one case of wine per person at no additional cost. Avelo defines one case of wine as a single box or case containing up to 12 bottles, weighing 50 lbs. or less. Avelo Airlines currently flies from Salem’s new municipal airport (SLE), approximately 40 miles south of Tualatin Valley, as well as Eugene, Redmond and Medford.
Here’s the fine print:
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- One case per passenger
- Customers must adhere to packing guidelines
Oregon Wines Fly Free with Alaska Airlines
Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan™ members may check up to one case of wine for free on any Alaska Airlines domestic flight from Oregon. Plus, enjoy a complimentary tasting while visiting when you show your recent in-bound boarding pass and proof of Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan membership at any of the participating wineries. Alaska Airlines currently flies from Portland International Airport (PDX), as well the Eugene, Medford and Redmond airports also in Oregon.
Here’s the fine print:
Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan members may check one case of wine (6 or 12 bottles) for free on an Alaska Airlines flight from Eugene, Medford, Portland or Redmond.
- One free checked case per Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan member (must be 21 or older)
- Your checked case does not count toward your baggage allowance
- Mix and match or bring a whole case from your favorite Oregon winery
- Be sure to read important information about how to pack your wine for travel
