Meet Tualatin Valley’s Black-Owned Businesses

CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH IN TUALATIN VALLEY

The month of February is Black History Month, which puts a spotlight on more than 400 years of Black history and heritage. Black communities have made significant and valuable cultural contributions to Tualatin Valley. Explore Tualatin Valley celebrates the myriad contributions to the region’s tourism industry.

Entertainment

  • Envision Golf is a new simulated golf center, owned by Marcel and Martha Newsome. The indoor golf center offers virtual play of more than 200 simulated golf courses, as well as a full menu with bites, pizza and drinks. (Membership is not required.)

Wine & Tea Shops

  • Abbey Creek Winery is owned by Bertony Faustin, the first black winemaker on record in the state of Oregon.  Bertony has been producing and selling his Abbey Creek wines since 2008, using grapes grown on the estate vineyard and has a tasting room at his winery in North Plains. Abbey Creek Winery has been featured in Food & Wine and Wine Enthusiast magazine. 
  • Mamancy Tea & Chocolate is a Black-owned company owned by Anne Johnson, who grew up drinking tea in Kenya as a family ritual ceremony. She is a certified tea sommelier, as well as a certified chocolatier. Mamancy Tea Co. offers specially curated teas and chocolates made with ingredients from all over the world.

Restaurants

  • Eazy Peazy Eatz is a restaurant owned by Chef Na’eem Woods, located in downtown Banks. Open for breakfast and lunch, Eazy Peazy offers traditional comfort foods, including biscuits and gravy, country fried steak and eggs, burgers and more.
  • Ezell’s Famous Chicken opened it’s first location in Oregon earlier this year. The family-owned business started in Seattle in 1984 and has grown into a Pacific Northwest icon. Founders Lewis Rudd and Faye Stephens wanted to serve chicken the way it was made in their hometown in Texas. Ezell’s is also committed to giving back to the community.
  • Hayat Somali Restaurant offers exquisite Somalian cuisine, prepared by Chef Ibrahim, who specializes in East African, Somali and Middle Eastern food. Enjoy a traditional meal combo, a lamb stew, sauteed chicken suqaar and more.
  • Killer Burger on Cedar Hills Boulevard is a local favorite serving 100% natural ground beef with fresh ingredients and tasting bacon. The unique peanut butter pickle bacon burger is a must-try.
  • Rush Bowls offers a healthy, satisfying meal-in-a-bowl featuring all-natural fruits and vegetables. The Streets of Tanasbourne location is perfect for a mid-shopping treat. A new location is opening in 2024 in Beaverton.
  • Stanford’s Tanasbourne, owned by Ascend Hospitality group, a Black- and female-led independent restaurant management group, is a classic American steakhouse.

Food Carts*

  • Love Eatz Smashbuger is a Black and Latina-owned food cart in Tigard that offers smashburgers and hot dogs.
  • The Mac is a food cart in Tigard that features a French-inspired mac and cheese, potatoes, fried catfish and chicken, burgers and  lots of add-on options.
