Washington County Hotel Performance Continues to Strengthen
Washington County’s hotels continue to perform above 2023 metrics, according to the latest report from STR. Occupancy levels in August 2024 increased 5.1% over 2023 to 78.9% (compared to 75% last year). Average daily room rate (ADR) also increased to $147.44, up 6.6% from $138.36. Overall, room revenue per available room (RevPAR) also increased to $116.28, 12% more than last year, when it was $103.78.

2024 Tourism Workforce Sentiment Study
Travel Oregon commissioned a study conducted by Future Partners to understand Oregon’s tourism workforce’s perceptions of tourism and the potential impact on their quality of life. A total of 1,800 responses were collected from residents who currently work for or own a business related to tourism.
Key Insights:
- The tourism workforce is much more likely to recognize tourism’s positive impacts, though environmental and social concerns temper its overall sentiment.
- Oregon’s tourism workforce has a high perceived quality of life and is largely optimistic about its future.
- Oregon’s tourism workforce has notably higher agreement levels around tourism’s positive personal impacts compared to overall residents.
- Oregon’s tourism workforce supports promoting and developing the industry but balks at becoming too dependent on tourism.

Don’t Forget to look Up! New PDX Terminal
After several years of construction, Portland International Airport (PDX) unveiled phase one of its new and improved airport design. The newly designed airport marks the return of PDX’s beloved carpet, along with new shops, restaurants, art, skylights and its impressive new wooden roof sourced from forests in Oregon and Washington. Construction will continue through early 2026, when the project is expected to be fully complete.

MAX’s Red Line Expansion
TriMet launched its “A Better Red” project last month, which extends the MAX Red Line to Hillsboro. The project, which now extends to the Hillsboro Airport and Fair Complex, provides a “one-seat” ride between Hillsboro and PDX. The project will improve schedule reliability for the entire MAX system.
