The Weekender: North Plains
Situated in northwestern Washington County, just off Highway 26, the main route between Portland and the Oregon Coast, the small city of North Plains attracts sports enthusiasts and thrill seekers who flock to the area for its collection of activities.
Your weekend starts with a rush of excitement at Pumpkin Ridge Zip Tours. This professionally guided zip-line tour takes you through trees and over a breathtaking canyon for a memorable Tualatin Valley experience.
After a thrilling ride through the trees, enjoy lunch at Hits the Spot Cafe and try the house specialty: stuffed burgers. These burgers, called “Stuffies,” are filled with bacon and cheese goodness. Of course, the cafe offers a variety of other burgers, sandwiches and breakfast served all day.
After lunch, taste a flight of fantastic Oregon wine at Abbey Creek Winery. Abbey Creek produces small-batch Pinot Noir, crafted at its North Plains winery, as well as limited-release unique varietals not commonly found in the Willamette Valley.
If you’re adventurous, take glider flight over the Tualatin Valley (April-October), piloted by a certified pilot from the Willamette Valley Soaring Club. Get a bird’s eye view of the valley below, while soaring peacefully through the sky.
Grab and morning tee-time at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club, one of Oregon’s most prestigious golf clubs. Pumpkin Ridge is home to several tournaments, which attract some of the top names in golf, including Tiger Woods, who won his last amateur title here before going pro.
After 18 holes, have a relaxing lunch at the clubhouse restaurant, Champion’s Grille, a casual restaurant that serves burgers, sandwiches and breakfast all day.
Before heading home from your Tualatin Valley getaway, check out the golf shop for tax-free shopping.
