Wineries & Wine Tasting
Oregon’s Willamette Valley is known for its exquisite Pinot Noir, where vintners tend to their grapes with great care, and nurture them—and the environment—by adhering to sustainable practices such as dry farming and using natural pesticides. Tualatin Valley, located in the northern part of this esteemed wine growing region, is home to more than 30 wineries, where cool-weather varietals thrive, such as Pinot Noir, Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris, as well as Chardonnay. Tualatin Valley also is home to many wines not often found in the United States, such as Auxerrois, Arneis and Lagrein. Most wineries are open to the public for tastings year-round, and several offer experiential tours.
Outdoor Recreation & Adventure
When it comes to recreation, Tualatin Valley is a diverse outdoor adventure destination, complete with activities ranging from bird watching to zip lining.
Bird Watching
Bird watching is plentiful in the Tualatin Valley, as the destination has several protected wetlands and nature preserves that are available to the public with walking trails, viewing spots and interpretive centers. Tualatin Valley is an important and active bird watching area, as it is located along the Pacific Flyway, a major north-south pathway from the Arctic tundra to South America for migratory birds.
Cycling and Hiking
Tualatin Valley is one of Oregon’s foremost cycling destinations. The crown jewel is the Tualatin Valley Scenic Bikeway, a 50-mile (one-way) ride along existing roads through rural and rustic towns. The bikeway also takes cyclists along the 21-mile Banks-Vernonia State Trail, Oregon’s first rail-to-trail, car-free, multiuse path, which also is used by hikers and equestrians.
In 2019, Tualatin Valley worked with local cyclists to develop new cycling routes and bike hubs. As a result, maps for 15 cycling routes were designed. All of the rides—designed for beginners through advanced riders—showcase the natural and scenic beauty of northwestern Oregon and consist of a mix of road cycling, car-free paved paths and gravel routes. Several “bike hubs” also are located throughout Tualatin Valley, with a host of amenities available, such as bike pumps, “fix-it” stations, restrooms and more.
The destination’s proximity to trails in the Tillamook State Forest, as well as L.L. Stub Stewart State Park, makes Tualatin Valley an ideal getaway for hikers, as well.
Zip Lining
Pumpkin Ridge Zip Tour and Tree to Tree Adventure Park are Tualatin Valley’s premier zip line courses. Pumpkin Ridge Zip Tour features seven zip lines that whisk guests through the forest canopy and past tall Douglas Firs and Western Red Cedars, with viewpoints usually exclusive to birds. At Tree to Tree Adventure Park, aerial ropes course and zip-line park, adventurers can spend a day here zipping from platform to platform, racing along the dueling zips, navigating the ropes course, and more.
Farms & Rural Landscapes
U-pick farms are abundant with crops, such as berries and apples from June through November. Rural drives, such as the Vineyard and Valley Scenic Tour Route or the Quilt Barn Trail of Tualatin Valley, showcases Tualatin Valley’s agricultural and historical heritage and artistry.
Golf & Golf Experiences
Tualatin Valley has 12 public and semi-private golf clubs, ranging from executive nine-hole to championship 18-hole courses. High-profile courses, such as The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club and Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club, have hosted some of the biggest professional names in the sport, in addition to some of golf’s most prestigious professional and amateur events.
Tax-Free Shopping
Tax-Free Shopping, plus the diversity of shopping experiences, makes the Tualatin Valley an ideal retail tourism location. Antiques, boutiques, technology stores and a variety of artisan, gourmet food and wine shops, and farmers’ markets and farm stands attract visitors from throughout the region.
Getting to and Around Tualatin Valley is Easy
Tualatin Valley is located minutes from Portland, and less than 45 minutes from Portland International Airport. Public transportation, including light rail, is available from Portland International Airport and downtown Portland to larger cities in the county, including Beaverton and Hillsboro. Major state and interstate highways also provide additional access to the area.
