In 2023, tourism brought in $756.4 million in direct destination spending to Tualatin Valley!

Tualatin Valley offers a wealth of attractions that are appealing to visitors: wine, golf, tax-free shopping, natural areas and more. Travelers collectively spend millions of dollars on lodging, camping, dining, shopping and entertainment, and tourism benefits the community as a whole.

Together with Explore Tualatin Valley, you can benefit from the burgeoning tourism industry. Explore Tualatin Valley (ETV) is the primary destination marketing organization for Washington County, Oregon, and markets the destination, its attractions and activities to leisure and business travelers around the globe. ETV also markets Washington County via several channels, including Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and TikTok.

2023 Oregon travel impacts

Travel Oregon worked with Dean Runyan Associates to estimate the economic significance of the travel industry in Oregon. The report describes the economic impacts of travel to and through the state, each of it’s seven tourism regions and all 36 counties over the time period of 2003 to 2022, and includes detailed estimates of travel spending, the employment and earnings generated by this spending, and travel-generated tax receipts. A primary objective of the report is to provide reliable detailed figures that permit year-to-year comparisons at the state, regional and county levels.

TOURISM PROGRAM (RCTP)

The Oregon Tourism Commission’s Regional Cooperative Tourism Program (RCTP) allocates a portion of state lodging tax revenues to support collaborative regional marketing and development efforts. Through the RCTP, Oregon’s Regional Destination Management Organizations (RDMOs) propose and implement regional strategies that leverage both public and private resources to strengthen the state’s tourism economy. WASHINGTON COUNTY’S HOTEL INDUSTRY

Tualatin Valley’s Lodging Properties Are An Integral Piece Of Our Tourism Community

Tualatin Valley’s hotels, motels and other lodging properties are integral to the region’s economy. In addition to providing employment to locals, the taxes they collect also benefits our communities. Transient lodging taxes (TLT) are collected from any person occupying a hotel, motel, dwelling unit used for temporary overnight occupancy (such as Airbnb), or recreational vehicle (RV) spaces.

These taxes, a 9% county tax on the cost to rent accommodation in Washington County, are distributed back to the communities within the county. The distribution of the 9% tax collected is as follows:

2.5%: General Fund of Washington County
1%: Washington County Fair Grounds
2.5%: returned to cities with paid lodging
2.1/3 %: Washington County Visitors Association for tourism promotion
2/3%: Washington County Event Center project, Wingspan Event and Conference Center
