New Openings & Things We’re Looking Forward to in 2019
While 2018 was a stellar year with new openings, we’re excited for 2019. See what’s in store for the early months of the year, bringing even more cool new places to eat, drink and sleep.
Breweries & Wineries
Portland’s Ex Novo Brewing Company is opening a new location this winter, smack-dab in Historic Downtown Beaverton. Ex Novo is known for its hop-forward, malt-forward and sour craft beers. The popular brews pair well with the Detroit-style pizza at this location.
Carlton-based Dauntless Wine Co. is opening a new tasting room soon, as well. The rustic tasting room, located right on Main Street in Forest Grove, will showcase Dauntless’ variety of wines, including Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Rosé.
The first Oregon location for Taiwanese favorite Din Tai Fung (dintaifungusa.com) is now open at Washington Square, Oregon’s premier shopping destination. The soft-opening for this much anticipated restaurant was in mid-December, and in mid-January it opens for first-come, first-served diners. Trust us, the wait will be worth it, as the xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) are absolutely amazing, and you can watch the dumplings being made from the picture window that looks out to shoppers and passersby.
If your travels take you to Forest Grove, look out for the new Japanese izakaya-style restaurant SaWa, right on Main Street. This new sushi and saké restaurant, which opened its doors in January, is owned by the same folks who own the popular Zagat-rated Japanese restaurant Syun Izakaya in downtown Hillsboro. SaWa showcases its Japanese-style tapas on platters, to be shared among friends. Fun fact: “Sa” means cherry blossom, which is a Japanese symbol of renewal, and “Wa” means peace or harmony.
Last year ended with a new hotel opening, TownePlace Suites by Marriott, and 2019 starts with another new hotel opening, with the February debut of Hillsboro’s newest hotel, Staybridge Suites Hillsboro North. This 80-room, all-suite, extended-stay hotel, with full kitchens, free breakfast and social happy hour, and amenities perfectly suited for the leisure and business traveler. Located near the town of Helvetia, the hotel is close to some of the area’s best attractions, such as Topgolf, Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks and Minerals, Helvetia Tavern, Helvetia Winery and more. Bonus: The hotel is a short walk from award-winning ABV Public House.
