Craft brews and interesting views are the perfect pairing!

We often laud the plentiful opportunities for wine tasting with vineyard views in the Tualatin Valley. But what about beer with a view? Turns out, suds and scenic landscapes are a lovely pairing. We’re detailing three of our favorite breweries and taprooms for enjoying a fresh, local beer while surveying a soothing scene in front of you.

THE GROWLERIE

In Beaverton’s Progress Ridge neighborhood, The Growlerie is more than your typical taphouse. Your choice from the 40-plus taps can be sipped by the lakeside windows or on patio. That’s right, taste your flight while watching birds take flight over the lake at sunset. That’s one happy happy hour indeed.

MCMENAMINS ROCK CREEK TAVERN

For a view with some history, head to Hillsboro’s McMenamins Rock Creek Tavern. Tucked along a rural country road, one may not assume that a defining moment in Oregon beer history happened here. The story goes that the post-prohibition beer wars of the 1930s had a literally explosive moment when a feud between two beer unions. The exchange supposedly resulted in a dynamite bomb being thrown where the tavern sits today. Thankfully, no injuries or damages occurred beyond a crater pit in the earth. Today, drinkers can still see the crater from the tavern’s spiffy patio.

BACKWOODS BREWING COMPANY

Tualatin Valley’s newest brew pub, Backwoods Brewing Company, offers a rooftop bar, with views of Main Street Hillsboro. As the only rooftop bar in Tualatin Valley, we definitely think Backwoods deserves to be on this list! Backwoods brews a diverse array of beers, including ales, pilsners, lagers, IPAs, stouts and sours. The food menu offers a variety of appetizers, salads, burgers, wraps, sandwiches and more, which pair perfectly with their craft brews.

ANCESTRY BREWING

Ancestry Brewing is growing right along with the rest of Oregon’s craft beer scene—at a rapid pace! Its brewing facility in Tualatin is attached to its welcoming tasting room. However, the brewery is not the view here. Grab a seat by the window for a view of Tualatin Valley wetlands, complete with migrating birds stopping at their own version of a watering hole.

19 ACRES CIDER CO.

While not a beer, per se, it would be a miss to not include 19 Acres Cider Co. on this list. Nestled amongst the vineyards of Willamette Valley, 19 Acres’ tasting room resides in a converted horse barn, thoughtfully updated with reclaimed wood accents and modern touches. Enjoy the scenic landscape through the floor to ceiling windows, or outside on one of their patios, while sipping a selection of their curated ciders.

So, how will you have your beer with a view? Discover all the amazing Oregon craft breweries in the Tualatin Valley.
