Day 1
Start the Tualatin Valley family adventure at Alpacas of Oregon (map it). Get up close with friendly alpacas. Guided farm tours let kids hand-feed the herd, learn about alpaca fleece, and visit the yarn and gift shop in the barn. (Booking required in advance).
Next, head over to Hoffman Farms (map it) for their Fall Harvest Festival. Take a tractor-drawn wagon ride out to the pumpkin patch to pick your favorite size, explore the corn maze, and grab hot pumpkin donuts and strawberry milkshakes at the farmstand.
Have lunch at South Store Cafe (map it), which offers a kids menu, plus weekend brunch, sandwiches, salads and pastries.
Then visit Smith Berry Barn (map it), across the street, for a u-pick experience, feed the farm goats and chickens, wander their grassy pumpkin patch (easy for little boots!), and let toddlers play on the straw pyramid and tiny tots hay maze.
Check in to Embassy Suites by Hilton Portland Hillsboro (map it). Kids under 17 stay free here, and the property offers free breakfast and an indoor pool.
That evening, grab dinner at Society Pie (map it), check out a first-run movie, play laser tag or hit the arcade at Wunderland (map it).
Day 2
After enjoying a complimentary, made-to-order breakfast at the hotel, take a drive out to the country and drive to the picturesque burg of Helvetia. First stop is the Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks & Minerals (map it), a museum that will fascinate kids and adults alike with its premier collection of rocks, fossils and more.
Next, drive past timber barns and wine vineyards to Roloff Farms (map it). Ride the wagon out to their sprawling pumpkin fields to pick your own future jack-o-lanterns right off the vine, then conquer the corn maze and ride the giant slides.
After a fun time at Roloff Farms, grab a burger at Helvetia Tavern (map it). Known for the best burgers in the Portland area, the tavern has a family-friendly dining room specifically designed for families, plus it has a kids menu.
Then, venture out to Fraga Farm (map it) to visit a certified organic goat cheese farm and to be a “farmer for an hour” ($70 per person). [BOOK] This hands-on experience includes milking a sweet goat, learning more about farm life and helping out with the goats. The hour ends with a cup of goat-milk gelato.
After a day in Tualatin Valley farm country, head back to the hotel to clean up for dinner, then have a meal at The Old Spaghetti Factory (map it), a fun-for-kids restaurant complete with a kids menu.
DAY 3
After breakfast, spend your final morning at Lee Farms’ (map it) Fall Harvest Festival (tickets required). Take a hayride out to the 20-acre pumpkin patch at this 7th-generation family farm. Navigate the 4-acre corn maze, feed the farm animals (pigs, goats and bunnies) and pick up a dozen famous hot apple cider donuts before heading home.
Before leaving Tualatin Valley, make sure to take advantage of tax-free shopping at either of Oregon’s premier shopping areas: Washington Square Mall (map it) and Bridgeport Village (map it). Both have fun shops ideal for families.
