What’s New in 2023 & 2024
Tualatin Valley is an ever-changing destination with new wineries, restaurants, hotels and attractions entering the market. These new attractions are generating buzz among visitors and locals alike.
WINE
3 Goats Vineyard is a new tasting room located on Main Street in downtown Forest Grove. 3 Goats is a small wine producer that makes estate-grown Pinot Noir from grapes grown in their vineyard in the Tualatin Hills AVA, as well as Syrah and Malbec sourced from a vineyard in Southern Oregon.
Failla Wines opened a tasting room in the Tualatin Hills American Viticultural Area (AVA). In 2023, California winemaker Ehren Jordan, purchased the Patton Valley Vineyard, bringing his label to Tualatin Valley. His expansion into the Pacific Northwest is indicative of his forward-thinking nature and desire to constantly challenge himself with excellent vineyards in different regions.
Sherwood Hills Winery is a new winery located on Parrett Mountain in Sherwood. The winery is open for tastings by appointment only and for special events.
BREWPUBS
Lazy Days Brewing, which purchased the former Ex Novo Brewing Co, opened its taproom and restaurant in January. The new brewery features its own craft brews, as well as some brews made from recipes handed down from Ex Novo. From hop-forward to malt-forward, Lazy Days craft beers pair well with their Detroit-style pizza.
Backwoods Brewing Company, which has brewpubs in Portland and Washington State, recently opened a new brewpub in downtown Hillsboro. Backwoods brews a diverse array of beers, including ales, pilsners, lagers, IPAs, stouts and sours. The food menu offers a variety of appetizers, salads, burgers, wraps, sandwiches and more, which pair perfectly with their craft brews.
DINING
Old Asia Teahouse and Restaurant is a new concept located in Downtown Beaverton. This modern teahouse features teas from various regions across Asia, which are paired with acclaimed Pan-Asiatic cuisine. In addition to tea, Old Asia also has craft cocktails and mocktails, beer and wine.
Don’s Favorite Foods is downtown Beaverton’s newest restaurant is an Italian Supper Club concept, Don’s Favorite Foods. The restaurant was created by husband and wife team, Chef Don Salamone, founder of Portland Burger Stevens, and Kate Laurents, and in partnership with sommelier Adam Galbraith. Salamone brings his Michelin-star restaurant experience to create a prix-fixe, high-end restaurant with an Italian and French-influenced menu that changes monthly.
Hillsboro Downtown Station is a new elevated food cart experience in downtown Hillsboro, with 23 food carts, plus an indoor space with a stage for live performances. Also in downtown is the Main Street Commons, a multilevel food and beverage collective with a European-style plaza. Popular Portland restaurants have moved into the space. Washington State brewery, Backwoods Brewery, will be an anchor tenant, opening a 5,000 square-foot rooftop deck later this year.
LODGING
Sosta House is Tualatin Valley’s newest farm-stay experience. Located next to the Winery Lane Collective (formerly the Hamacher Wines tasting house), Sosta House is a unique destination bed-and-breakfast, surrounded by some of Oregon’s oldest vineyards. Those vineyards were planted in 1969 by Ponzi Vineyards, one of the pioneers of Oregon’s wine industry. The site, which was the original home of the Ponzi family, is run by the third generation of the winegrowing family, spearheaded by the children of Luisa Ponzi, a second-generation winemaker, and Eric Hamacher, of Hamacher Wines.
Cedartree Hotel, brings a Japanese-style experience to travelers to Tualatin Valley. Designed with a Japanese ambiance, amenities includes swimsuit-optional indoor baths (separated by gender) and a co-ed outdoor Onsen (soaking pool; bathing suit required). Additional features include an on-site restaurant with various cuisines and saké bar, which serves the finest saké and whiskeys from Japan, as well as additional imported alcohol.
SPORTS
Portland Rock Gym, located outside the city of Beaverton, will be the largest gym of its kind in the country when its expansion is completed this spring. Most of the facility is now open and features multiple walls for bouldering, or “free climbing” without harnesses or ropes. The gym also has multiple 14-foot walls, as well as a 12-foot wall for beginning climbers. In addition to various walls for climbers of all levels, the facility also will have a wall replicating the one that will be used for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
