Created by artist Emily Jung Miller, the 18-panel art exhibit, “Wonder Windows” blends ecology and art to celebrate the natural beauty of Scoggins Valley Park
Beaverton, Ore. (October 8, 2025) — Explore Tualatin Valley (ETV), the destination marketing organization (DMO) for Oregon’s Washington County, is proud to announce the unveiling of Wonder Windows, a stunning new public art installation by Pacific Northwest artist Emily Jung Miller at Henry Hagg Lake in Scoggins Valley Park. The project features 18 vibrant, six-foot-tall double-sided transparent panels, each illustrating the interconnected ecosystems of the lake. Supported by Explore Tualatin Valley with funding from Travel Oregon’s Regional Cooperative Tourism Program and Washington County Parks, the project is undergoing installation and expected to be completed by mid-October.
Miller, a Forest Grove-based BIPOC artist, combined species and habitat research, site visits, and artistic interpretation to lead a local team in fabricating panels from steel and other multi-layer, custom-cut materials. Created over the course of six months, Wonder Windows celebrates the biodiversity of Hagg Lake through 36 unique nature scenes, highlighting more than 80 local species of plants and animals. The installation invites visitors to engage with nature through art, fostering a sense of wonder, curiosity and connection. From the endangered Fender’s Blue Butterfly and its host plant, Kincaid Lupine, to native birds like the Bufflehead Duck and Cedar Waxwing, the installation brings the lake’s ecosystems to life. Other panels illustrate seasonal transitions with native species like Oregon White Oak, Camas and Mahonia (Oregon Grape), offering a glimpse into the interdependent web of life that surrounds Hagg Lake.
“Explore Tualatin Valley is proud to support public art that deepens our connection to place,” said Dave Parulo, president and CEO of Explore Tualatin Valley. “Wonder Windows is an invitation to pause, reflect and celebrate the natural beauty surrounding Hagg Lake, one of our region’s most treasured outdoor destinations.”
The installation is part of Explore Tualatin Valley’s ongoing initiative to connect art, nature and community. Earlier this year, the organization partnered with Third Angle New Music to launch a site-specific soundwalk at Hagg Lake, composed by Katherine Paul, who performs as Black Belt Eagle Scout. The soundwalk enables visitors to enjoy the 45-minute audio recording at any time, using their own device and headphones while moving along a designated section of Hagg Lake Loop Trail. Both Wonder Windows and the Hagg Lake soundwalk reflect a growing commitment to immersive, place-based experiences that honor the cultural and ecological richness of the Tualatin Valley. Wonders Windows and a collection of other public art installations in the region can be explored through Explore Tualatin Valley’s Public Arts Trail Mobile Passport. This passport guides users to events, art walks, shows, and more—inviting you to discover colorful murals, striking sculptures, luminous glass works, and lively events that reflect the culture and diversity of Tualatin Valley.
“I’m very excited for people to come to Scoggins Valley Park to see the Wonder Windows,” said Carl Switzer, parks manager of Washington County Parks. “These beautiful interpretive panels will inspire fresh appreciation of the natural world around us and I encourage everyone to come see them. Washington County Parks values the partnership with Explore Tualatin Valley and Travel Oregon that brought the Wonder Windows to life.”
