CAN’T MISS AUGUST EVENTS

Whether you’re a local or a visitor, or planning a fun summer getaway near Portland, check out our list of can’t-miss August events.

Stop to Smell the Flowers

Catch the final weekend of the Northwest Lily Festival (August 3-4; free). Each year, David Hill Farm showcases their gardens featuring more than 75 varieties of lilies in bloom. Take home a potted lily to bloom in your own garden, or purchase one of their gorgeous bouquets.  Oregon’s largest sunflower festival, Lee Farms’ Annual Sunflower Festival (August 2-18; $25), returns to Tualatin Valley. For three weekends in August (Friday-Sunday) explore the sunflower fields via a scenic hayride, learn about the many different varieties of sunflowers, pick your own fresh flowers, wander the sunflower maze and more.

Escape from Vampires

You’ll be safe from bloodsuckers at the North Plains Elephant Garlic Festival (August 9-11; free admission). With the motto of “fun stinks,” chow garlic sausages, popcorn, oysters and even ice cream.

Wine Time

More than 20 local wineries and winery artisans will be pouring at the annual Sherwood Wine Festival (August 10; $30). Tickets include two tasting tokens and a wine glass.  The annual Forest Grove Uncorked (August 17; $15; nominal tasting fees may apply) features local wineries, breweries and distilleries.

Go Full Americana

It’s the American triple-Ts: tractors, trucks and T-bones! Find all three at the 78th Annual Banks Bar-B-Que and Truck & Tractor Pull (August 16-18; $12-$18). The event also features a beer garden, car show, a parade, combine destruction derby and more.

Tricked-Out Cars

The coolest cars and snazziest motorcycles are put on display with the Wapato Showdown (August 15-17; free). The “Best Pipes Contest” is a real crowd pleaser

Global Foods and Finds

The Beaverton Night Market (August 17, 5-8 p.m.; free admission) is so nice it’s happening twice. The Beaverton Round transforms into a bustling market of food and crafts.

But that’s not all… the August event calendar is filled with so much more! Live music, theater productions and many other events and activities are happening throughout the month. Visit our full event calendar for a complete list.
