Tualatin Valley Summer Theater Guide

This summer boasts an abundance of performing arts and theater productions, and Tualatin Valley’s three professional theater companies, each bring high-quality theater to this growing artist’s enclave. This summer theater season boasts an eclectic mix of musical productions and a triple dose of William Shakespeare.

Musicals

Broadway Rose Into the WoodsStephen Sondheim’s musical masterpiece, “Into the Woods,” takes the stage at the Broadway Rose Theatre Company’s New Stage.

Broadway Rose Theatre Company, which stages award-winning musical theater productions, presents Into the Woods, May 30-June 30. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, this timeless masterpiece features familiar storybook characters such as Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Cinderella and Jack (with his beanstalk). In August, Broadway Rose brings the musical Footloose to Tualatin Valley, August 1-September 1. Based on the hit ’80s film, this toe-tapping production celebrates the spirit and optimism of young people fighting for change, all set against explosive choreography and a familiar soundtrack of ’80s pop anthems. Shakespeare

The Experience Theatre Project brings the first-ever Westside Shakespeare Festival to Beaverton, June 28-30. This all-ages, three-day immersive celebration features a collaboration of local theater groups, nonprofits, and art educators that will immerse attendees in all things Shakespeare. The festival will feature the immersive and experimental theater company’s production of A Comedy of Errors. Admission to the festival is free ($5 donation requested). Learn more >>>

A classic Shakespearean comedy gets turned on its head with Bag&Baggage Productions‘ staging of Much Ado About Nothing, July 11-28. Coming to Hillsboro from Glasgow’s “Bard in the Botanics,” Gordon Barr’s adaptations of one of the Bard’s most well-loved comedies turns central lovers Benedick and Beatrice into contemporary partners Benedick and Bertram while exploring love and its many facets with a fluid approach to gender. The Willamette Shakespeare company, now in its 11th season, produces quality, classical theater to educate, enrich and entertain residents and visitors to the Willamette Valley. This summer, the company is bringing to life the Bard’s fun and fantastical play, As You Like It to Montinore Estate, August 9-11. Admission is free; wine available for purchase.
