DAY 1
Start your Tualatin Valley adventure at Cake Hoopla (map it) in Tigard, where kids and parents alike get hands-on experience decorating their own custom cupcakes.
Check into The Grand Hotel at Bridgeport (map it), your homebase for the trip. Spacious accommodations, complimentary hot breakfast and free parking make traveling with kids a little easier. After settling in, let the kids splash around in the indoor pool before heading out for an evening of holiday fun.
That evening, stroll around Bridgeport Village (map it) to browse the shops and visit Santa in his holiday cottage. The shops are a mix of local and national retailers, including a few that are the only Oregon locations. Plus, it’s tax free, so it’s a perfect spot to get some holiday shopping done.
For dinner, take the family to Pastini at Bridgeport Village (map it) to enjoy a selection of hearty pasta dishes. For young ones 12 and under, the dedicated kids’ menu features favorite pasts, such as mac-n-cheese and spaghetti marinara. Or gather around the table at Choza Tacos y Cantina (map it) for their popular family taco bar and kids’ menu.
Day 2
After a complimentary breakfast at the hotel, kick off a full day in Tualatin Valley at Langer’s Entertainment Center (map it). Grab a bite at the restaurant, then spend time climbing the rock wall or playing arcade games, a round or two of bowling or laser tag.
As the sun starts to set, travel to Orenco Station in Hillsboro and take to the ice at the Winter Village Ice Rink (map it), an open-air seasonal skating rink. Admission includes skate rentals and aids to help little beginners stay steady on the ice are available to rent. Public skating sessions are available daily (November 29-January 10).
For dinner, head to Reedville Café (map it), a beloved local staple that serves classic American diner comfort food and offers a kids’ menu that pleases even the pickiest eaters.
DAY 3
Before heading home, bundle up for a morning walk along the paved Cook Family Park Loop trail, where scenic views of the Tualatin River offer a peaceful start to the day.
Next, head to Hot Spot Studio (map it) in nearby Sherwood for some hands-on family fun. Create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, such as a canvas painting or mosaic, and take home a special keepsake from your getaway.
Time permitting, squeeze in a little more holiday magic with a visit to a local holiday bazaar to browse handmade gifts. Or visit a nearby tree farm and capture a few family photos before heading home with new memories and perhaps a new holiday tradition.
