WINTER WEEKENDS, WELL SPENT

Trip Time: 3 Days

Winter is an invitation to slow down, savor exceptional wines and discover something new. Just minutes from Portland, Tualatin Valley offers an inviting mix of intimate winery experiences, acclaimed restaurants, upscale shopping and unexpected adventures. Spend three days enjoying the best of Oregon wine country, from fireside tastings and chef-curated dining to a little holiday indulgence.

Day 1

A winter wine getaway begins with a stop at Blakeslee Vineyard Estate (map it). Settle in beside the fire with a glass of estate-grown Pinot Noir.

Check in to the Century Hotel (map it), a lakeside property in Tualatin offering comfortable accommodations and a convenient home base for your wine country getaway.

After checking in, it’s time to explore. Kick off the weekend with some high-end holiday shopping at nearby Washington Square (map it). Spend the afternoon exploring designer boutiques and premium retailers, such as Apple, Coach and Nordstrom, to pick up gifts, or a little something for yourself.

For dinner, enjoy an unforgettable meal at Canard (map it) in downtown Beaverton. Chef Gabriel Rucker’s inventive french-diner fare delivers an elevated yet relaxed dining experience.

Day 2

Ease into the morning over a leisurely breakfast and freshly brewed coffee at Brix Tavern (map it), featuring classic brunch favorites.

Next, head over to Apex Golf (map it) to reserve a virtual bay. This “ultimate” indoor golf destination features realistic golf simulators with features such as moving swing plates and auto-tee technology.

Then, trade the golf clubs for wine glasses as you discover the quieter side of Oregon wine country during cellar season. Make a reservation to experience Ponzi Vineyards’ (map it) exclusive high-end, four-course winemaker’s lunch, “The Laurelwood Table.” Each course pairs a Ponzi single-vineyard wine with seasonal dishes prepared by head chef, Eric Ekberg.

Continue to Alloro Vineyard (map it), where an elegant tasting room and roaring stone fireplace set the scene for an intimate afternoon of wine tasting with a flight of estate-grown wines.

As evening approaches, head back toward Tualatin for a relaxed, atmospheric dinner at La Industria (map it), where handmade pastas and traditional Mexican-Italian fusion bring warm comfort to a cool cellar-season night.

Wrap up Saturday evening by taking in a live performance nearby, whether it’s a musical production at Broadway Rose Theatre Company (map it) or a contemporary, global show at the Patricia Reser Center for the Arts (map it).

Day 3

Before heading home, take a cozy stroll around the lake behind the hotel before doing more tax-free shopping at Bridgeport Village (map it). Wander the European-style, open-air streets and pop into boutiques such as Anthropologie, Chanel Fragrance and Gorjana to complete your holiday gift list. Or visit their collection of home and design stores, including Sur La Table, Herman Miller or interior design store City Home.

After a leisurely afternoon of shopping, grab a bite at one of Bridgeport Village’s signature restaurants or a coffee for the road and head home relaxed, cozy and fully stocked for the holidays.
